Architecture and Decor
The "Prohibition Room" is located within Oklahoma City's celebrated "Gold Dome."
Created by renowned architect R. Buckminster Fuller in 1958, the "Gold Dome" is a 27,000 square foot, glittering building clad in 625 gold anodized panels.
Originally designed to be the home of "Classen State Bank" the building is now on the "National Register of Historic Places." It received this honor, in part, because there are only four other geodesic domes like it in the nation.
Once inside the glittering dome, diners will be met with all the ambiance and décor of a Prohibition era speakeasy.
Menu
The menus at the "Prohibition Room" feature classic cocktails and meals also reminiscent of a prohibition era speakeasy.
Diners can expect to find such staple items as mussels and sausage, linguine and prawns, bruschetta and fillet medallions as well as classic soups, salads and sandwiches.
Classic cocktails of the prohibition period such as whiskey sours, Manhattans, Tom Collins, Gimlets and absinthes are just a few of the libations typically found on the "Prohibition Room" cocktail menu.
Menu prices are reasonable with appetizers, soups, salads and sandwiches ranging in price from $3 to $11.
Main entrees are also fairly priced and tend to range from $12 to $18 a person. Side dishes are priced ala carte at $5 a side and desserts hover in the $6 range.
Cocktails, though well made, can be a bit pricey and will set one back anywhere from $9 to $10 a drink.
Live Entertainment
In addition to food and drinks, the "Prohibition Room" features live entertainment such as burlesque, comedy improv, jazz artists and acoustical music. For those interested, a schedule of the upcoming entertainment is maintained on the restaurant's website.
Hours of Operation
The "Prohibition Room" is open daily, year round. It is open Monday through Friday from 11:00 am until 2:00 am and on weekends from 4:00 pm until 2:00 am.
Would-be diners should note that although the "Prohibition Room" remains open until 2:00 am, food service concludes at 1:00 am and alcohol service ends at 1:30 am.
